Week 41: Monday 18th October - Sunday 24th October 2021
I arrive at Monday's PT session, full of aches, pains and stiffness after yesterday's busy morning of pole dancing. You may remember how only a couple of weeks ago my PT tried to crush me to death. Well, he didn't quite succeed on that occasion.
I survived.
So today he's having another go.

The leg crushing machine
I'm back on the leg crushing machine again, this time with 90 kilos of weight.
"You're really going to struggle when you cycle back home today!" he says (and there's way too much glee in his voice when he says this).
"I want to go home!" I moan, after the leg machine. "I've had enough already!"
He laughs in delight.
The arm destroying machine
I'm also made to go on the arm destroying machine in this session. I've never really been too sure of the point of this machine...
My PT counts down as I'm spinning my arms around on the arm destroying machine.
"Five, four, three...two, two, TWO, TWOOOOO..." he shouts.
He's doing the 'stuck on one number" thing again. I hate it when he gets stuck on a number - I think he enjoys it though!
"Aaaaaaarggh!" I eventually scream out in frustration.
Again, he seems to be delighted at my frustration.
Again, I complain that he seems to be trying to kill me today.
The sadist personal trainer
He tells me that the whole point of the sessions is that they have to keep getting harder, and that I have to always be struggling and feeling the pain...
My friends keep telling me that my PT sounds like a sadist...and I have to say, I'm inclined to agree...
The ball slamming exercise
The session finishes with a ball slamming exercise, which is actually really fun - there's something quite cathartic about slamming a ball really hard, down into the ground!
I could have worked harder, apparently...
The next day I get a WhatsApp message from my PT.
"Hi Lisa, how are you feeling after yesterday. Legs ok? 🤔"
"A little achy. I didn't die when cycling home though - sorry to disappoint you!"
"Well that means despite the complaints, you could have worked harder Lisa!!! 😂"
So it seems that I do have to actually die before my PT will consider that I've worked hard enough. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that...
I'm growing like a tree...
After Friday's PT session, the final session of the week, I receive one more WhatsApp message from my PT.
"Well done today, Lisa. You're growing!"
I'm not sure what he means by that exactly. It seems a bit of a strange thing to say - it makes me sound like I'm a flower, or a tree! I don't think he meant that I'm a flower or a tree though - I guess he probably means I'm finally starting to get a bit more muscly and strong!
Maybe that means I'm getting a little closer to being able to do that pull-up that I so desire to be able to do...
