My Strongest Self

A journey in weight loss, self-discovery and learning to love myself more every day.

The week where I went to Ben's Cookies

Week 28: Monday 19th July - Sunday 25th July 2021

This week starts with a short break.

I'm off to visit friends for a couple of days, and as with my last trip away, I find myself slipping into unhealthy eating habits again. I end up treating myself to a 99 ice cream cone on Monday, and on Tuesday I have a double chocolate chunk cookie from Ben's Cookies in Bath.

Ben's Cookies - the perfect occasional treat

If you've never had a Ben's Cookie before then I would highly recommend them as an occasional treat. They are simply the best cookies ever! All other cookies pale in comparison to Ben's Cookies - and it seems I'm not the only person who thinks so.

"Delicious! Scrumptious! Yummy!" says one reviewer on TripAdvisor. "

"My mind was blown!" says another reviewer.

"I thought I knew nice Cookies until I came here. WOW, Amazing" says another.

Discovering Ben's Cookies

I first discovered Ben's Cookies over 15 years ago, back in my uni days in Bath. Ever since then, I've never been able to visit Bath without also taking a trip to Ben's Cookies.

A double chocolate chunk cookie from Ben's Cookies - my favourite flavour!

The cookies are somewhere between a cookie and a brownie - crumbly on the outside, and doughy and gooey on the inside. They're best eaten warm (ask for a cookie straight out of the oven if you're buying from the shop - or reheat in the oven if having you're having them at home). The cookies tend to fall to pieces as you eat them, resulting in messy, sticky, chocolatey fingers!

Hidden away in a side-street in Bath, the shop is easy to miss if you're not looking out for it. It also appears that they do nationwide delivery now too - which is a slightly dangerous discovery, as I may well be tempted to order additional treats at some point in the future...

A dog called Colby

Finally, I also get to meet my friend's new dog, called Colby, on my break. Colby is very little, only 6 months old, and one of his favourite things is digging. Here's Colby digging a hole on the beach.

As well as digging holes, Colby also likes to chew on feathers that he finds along the beach.

I often think how nice it must be to be a dog, finding contentment in the simplest of things in life, such as digging holes, or chewing feathers...

Getting back to work in the gym

On Wednesday and Thursday it is time to get myself back on track after my small break. I have personal training sessions on both of these mornings, and they both feel like a struggle. It feels like my body has slipped slightly back into holiday mode since my short break. As I'm put through core exercises and leg-kicking exercises, I feel very much like I can still feel the ice-cream from Monday and the cookie from Tuesday sitting sluggishly in my stomach, weighing me down and taking all of my energy away.
