This week I have mainly been eating a lot of junk food.
I've been on holiday in Cornwall for most of the week - and eating healthily whilst on holiday - especially when surrounded by other people who are eating junk food - is near impossible.
My lunch on one of the days was a full English breakfast, followed by a flapjack snack in the afternoon. The next day's lunch consisted of a packet of crisps, a piece of fudge and a chocolate chip cookie. Evening meals were things like BBQ food, BBQ food leftovers, fish & chips - all washed down with generously sized sloshes of red wine.
A weekend of more junk food
On Friday evening I return home from my holiday and decide I may as well finish the week as I started - by indulging myself in even more unhealthy eating. I order an Indian takeaway on the Friday night; I have leftover Indian takeaway for lunch on Saturday; I have Italian takeaway on the Saturday evening; and I have leftover Italian takeaway on the Sunday evening.
This week has definitely been the most junk food I've eaten in a long time!
Some restaurant recommendations
In fairness, some of the junk food I've been eating this week has been really good quality food. Perhaps not so good for losing weight - but definitely high quality occasional treat food. Here are a few of the places I've eaten from this week.
Salkaara is one of the most highly rated Indian restaurants in Cardiff. In 2019 it was rated as Cardiff's top restaurant on TripAdvisor - and today it is still in the top few places. It's one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Cardiff (along with Mowgli's Indian which comes in a close second place for me). After almost eight months of eating healthily it was lovely to treat myself to a Salkaara Indian takeaway this weekend! :)
I'd also highly recommend Stefano's, a quaint and friendly Italian restaurant in Cardiff, offering both dine-in and takeaway options. They even do 'proper' spaghetti carbonara - made with eggs, pancetta and black pepper (as opposed to the sickly British version of carbonara, made with cream). The desserts are amazing too - especially the homemade tiramisu.
Finally, if you're ever in Hayle, Cornwall you should definitely visit Sanders Fish and Chips restaurant. This place is a cut above the average fish and chip shop and lives up to it's amazing reviews - the battered fish was probably the most non-greasy, delicious and fresh tasting fish I've ever had.
Relaxed, recharged and sleepy
By the end of the week I'm feeling super chilled out and relaxed. I feel mentally recharged; all of the stress and illness I've been talking about in recent weeks now seems a dim and distant memory.
The not so positive outcome of this week is that I'm now about a half a kilo heavier than I was before I went away. My body feels well rested - but heavy, stretchy and sleepy.
The idea of having to get going with my weight loss journey again from tomorrow is completely unappealing to me at this moment in time.
